Vineyard Diary
Preparation for the vineyard began in late autumn 2006, but progress was slow due to the bad weather conditions that winter.
The site needed to have drainage installed (Pic 1) for the run off from the top field and new mole drains put in the vineyard.
The soil also needed nutrients and minerals added. Most of this was accomplished using 30 tonnes of local compost and 27 tonnes of Rockdust (Pic 2 & 3) to add the minerals.

The next step was to deep plough the field (Pic. 4).
Mulch was then laid to suppress weeds around the vines (Pic. 5).
Steel canes were installed to train the new vines up (Pic. 6 & 7)
Growth at the end of the first year (Pic. 8 & 9).
The steel trellis work is being installed at the beginning of 2008.
